Vanessa Demopoulos came back from the brink of defeat in her UFC 270 prelim, snatching an armbar after being nearly knocked out by Silvana Gomez Juárez in the first round.
Overcome with joy, Demopoulos split and then surprised UFC commentator Joe Rogan by holding him in his arms during their post-fight interview.
Check out the finish below.
If you only watched the finishing sequence, you would have hardly any idea how close Demopoulos was to defeat. A smashing overhand from Juarez cracked his chin in the opening frame. As Juarez landed hammer after hammer fist, it looked like the fight would be stopped.
"I woke up on the ground for a second, so..." Demopoulos said of how badly he was hurt.
But then, the UFC up-and-comer saw an opportunity with Juarez's leg exposed, and he quickly hooked it and trapped his opponent's arm with his feet. Leverage knocks Juarez on the mat, his arm strangely sharp.
Rogan was not alone in the end of Demopoulos' love. As the crowd grew, a California State Athletic Commission official also embraced.
LFA vet Demopoulos scored his first octagon victory since his first loss against JJ Aldrich in his debut. Juarez, meanwhile, suffers a second straight blow through the armbar and fails to win in the UFC.
