One MFD firefighter transported to the hospital after raging fire at Baymont Inn hotel on Shelby Oaks Drive near Sycamore View Rd. breaks out

MFD advised drivers to avoid the area and expect travel delays until the fire is controlled and the area is clear.

The Memphis Fire Department arrives at the scene of an active fire on Monday, March 7 at 12:57 at the Beaumont Inn Hotel on the 6000 block of Shelby Oaks Drive.

According to an official statement issued by MFD, the flames spread throughout the building, up to the third floor.

MFD tweeted advising drivers to avoid the area, saying those traveling in the area should expect delays.

ABC24's Chelsea Chandler got the worst footage of the fire.

ABC24 photographer, Ian Ripple, was at the scene, and reported that an MFD firefighter had been taken to hospital for heat exhaustion in a non-serious condition. The MFD later confirmed that the officer had been taken to Baptist East.

MFD reported that 118 people were displaced.

The MFD report said they believe the fire was deliberately set after seeing several mattresses against the hotel building. MFD also reported that the hotel had adequate smoke alarms.
