Orlando, Fla. - - Franz Wagner made three free throws with 12.2 seconds and sipped on an inbound play for the final point, helping the Orlando Magic win a 94-90 over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.
With the Warriors' defeat, the NBA-leading Phoenix Suns (58–14) took first place in the Pacific Division.
Mo Bamba's 3-pointer gave Orlando an 89-88 lead with 52 seconds to go.
Wendell Carter Jr. led Orlando with 19 points and Wagner had 18 points and a big finish.
"Franz can play, man," said Magic guard Cole Anthony, who had 14 points and five assists. "He can surround. I saw it here for the first time tonight."
Jordan Poole scored 26 points for the Warriors, who shot 40% for the game and scored seven turnovers in the fourth quarter en route to a third consecutive loss. Klay Thompson added 15 points and Otto Porter Jr. had 14 points and 15 rebounds.
"I think we're playing soft, I think we're playing stupid," said Warriors forward Drummond Green. "We're just not playing good basketball. We're getting punked, and we're losing a lot of fourth quarters. No disrespect to the Orlando Magic, but they're one of the worst teams in the league."
According to Green, the absence of Stephen Curry for the second game in a row did not qualify as an excuse.
"No, Steph isn't going to bring that level of physicality to the game," he said. "It's not his job."
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said things would have changed without Curry in the lineup.
"We have to look at our lineup, we have to address everything," Kerr said. "...It's like a domino effect. You saw me searching the lineup tonight. But in the fourth quarter I was really disappointed. We didn't execute at all in the fourth quarter."
The Warriors went 7 for 24 and failed to hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter, falling 25-12 before Porter and Thompson scored the last five points of the period.
Jonathan Cuminga scored 10 points and four rebounds to keep the Warriors in the second quarter.
Golden State were 3 for 18 from a range of 3 points until Poole, Porter and Thompson combined for five straight in the five-minute pan, with 3:15 in the third quarter to take the Warriors 69–61. Gave an edge
Poole's long 3-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter gave Golden State a first two-point lead of the game at 77-65.
"But we kept on playing," Anthony said. "We realized that there are four quarters in a game, and we're not going to lose in an instant like this."
But Markle Fultz scored twice in a 13-0 run by the Magic, while the Warriors went nearly five minutes without a score.
Thompson could not avoid fouling Wagner in his 3-point attempt in the final second.
"Three-point shooters have killed us in the last two games," Kerr said. "I love these guys, but we have to learn how to win. Right now, we don't know how to win."
