North Melbourne midfielder Jade Anderson has yet to receive his second COVID-19 vaccination and has not returned from Darwin for the AFL pre-season.
The virus surge continues in the AFLW with St Kilda coach Nick Dal Santo and Western Bulldogs captain Ellie Blackburn gearing up for next weekend's second round.
Now North has confirmed that Anderson had a poor response to the first jab and didn't get the second.
Under league rules, AFL players in Victoria must be double vaccinated to participate in pre-season training.
“We will continue to work with Jade on the next steps, but in the short term he will be in Darwin, where he will complete his training programme.
Our club fully supports the AFL's vaccination policy and, in the interest of community health and safety, we urge everyone to receive the full course of vaccinations and booster shots."
Meanwhile, Dal Santo will have to sit out of St Kilda's round-two AFLW game against Collingwood on Saturday as part of the league's health and safety protocols.
Player Development Manager Paddy Hill will coach him against the Magpies.
"As with everyone at this point in time, we have to be flexible and roll with the punches," said St AFLW football boss Tessie McManus.
"Nick will still be heavily involved in our event, even if they are off-site for the next few days.
"I have no doubt that Paddy will do a great job coaching the team this week."
According to the AFLW website, Western Bulldogs captain Eli Blackburn, their best player in their first-round loss to Melbourne, will be out of their round-two game against Geelong on Saturday night.
North captain Emma Kearney is expected to return for Sunday's match against Adelaide.
Kearney had tested positive for COVID-19 but was available for last Saturday's win over Geelong.
She was still sitting out of the game as a health precaution.
