Andy Murray claims first win of the year

Five-time Australian Open finalist Andy Murray showed his class by defeating Viktor Durasovic of Norway to pass through the second round of the Sydney Tennis Classic.

Murray has been given a wildcard at next week's Australian Open and looks like he has found some form as he beat Durasovic 6-3, 6-1.

Since he last reached the Open final in 2016, when he lost to Novak Djokovic, the 34-year-old has made it to the first round only once.

Repeated hip injuries have meant Scott has played only one of the last four Australian Opens.

The former world No 1, now ranked 135th, didn't get off to the best start of the summer, going out in the first round in last week's Melbourne summer set.

But after being given a wildcard this week, there were signs of Murray getting old on Tuesday night.

The three-time Grand Slam winner forced Durasovic to make mistakes and Murray took the lead when given the opportunity.

"I was hoping to get the match in Melbourne. It didn't happen but thankfully Tennis Australia gave me a wildcard to play here," he said.

"I'm so grateful for that and hope I can stay here for a few more days."

Murray will face a tough challenge from world number 23 Nikoloz Basilashvili for a place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
