Nick and Vanessa Lachey open up about their marriage.
While promoting their new Netflix series The Ultimatum: Mary or Move On, the hosts revealed that they split briefly before getting married.
"We dated for five years. So I finally said, 'What are we doing?'" Vanessa recalled the first episode of the show. "I had moved in with her, I renovated her whole bachelor pad, there was a bar in the pool. I It was like, 'Whatever you want,' and now I'm like, 'Okay, I want to have the kids in the pool.'"
Vanessa waved her ring finger around, "So that's when I started dancing."
"That's the nail in the coffin," joked Nick.
Vanessa then explained why she and Nick decided to part ways before getting married.
Vanessa shared, "If I'm completely clear and transparent, we took a break." "We both looked at each other and we realized that if we went out of our way, we could be wonderful together."
She continued, "But seeing someone else make me realize that I didn't care about the things that bothered me or were holding me back. I don't mind all of that. The big picture is that I am that. How I feel about the person and their values of being with me and knowing everything about me."
"I think we've got perspective," Nick said.
Nick and Vanessa married in 2011 and share three children – sons Camden, 9, and Phoenix, 5, and daughter Brooklyn, 7.
