Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Several Chicago-Area Counties

A strong thunderstorm watch was issued for several counties in the Chicago area through early Sunday as severe thunderstorms and rain are expected in the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a strong thunderstorm watch was issued for Cook, DuPage, Kankakee, Lake and Will counties in Illinois as of 2 p.m. Sunday.

Earlier, several severe thunderstorm warnings were in place, warning of possible wind gusts of up to 70 mph. Forecasters said damage to trees, mobile homes and roofs was possible. The warnings have since expired.
