Georgia lineman Jordan Davis, at 341 pounds, runs 40-yard dash in 4.78 seconds at NFL scouting combine

Indianapolis — Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis — all 341 pounds of him — finished the 40-yard dash in 4.78 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday night.

It was a sight worthy of the praise it received from several thousand fans inside Lucas Oil Stadium to watch the defensive linemen and linebackers go through their on-field workouts.

Davis, who is 6-foot-6⅜, hasn't actually been required to run a 40-yard sprint in an NFL game, but he's run it in a knot like few others of his size ever.

The clock of 4.78 was the fastest for any player over 330 pounds since 2006 and is believed to be one of the fastest times for a player of that size in the history of the event.

Davis later jumped 10 feet, 3 inches, which is considered the record for a player over 300 pounds.

Former Nebraska defensive tackle Khaleel Davis scored 4.75 40 in the 2020 Scouting Combine, the fastest 40 by a defensive lineman who weighed more than 300 pounds since 2006.

Of the more than 330 clubs, only former Auburn tackle Greg Robinson and former Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe had broken the 5 second mark in 40 before Davis. Robinson ran 4.92 in 2014 at 332 pounds; Poe, at 346 pounds, clocked 4.98 seconds in the 2012 combination.

Poe also performed 44 repetitions of 225 pounds in the bench press and a 34-inch vertical jump—each a staggering number for a player of his size.

Jordan Davis, a potential first-round pick in next month's NFL draft, was a first-team All-SEC selection this past season and started at least eight games for the Bulldogs in three of his four seasons. He also had a rushing touchdown last season.

Some other notable times in defensive linemen included Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson (4.75), Georgia's Travan Walker (4.51), Michigan's David Ozabo (4.55) and Oregon's Kywan Thibodaux (4.58).

Hutchinson is currently the No. 1 ranked player in drafts by both Todd McShea and Mel Kipper Jr.

Ole Miss' Sam Williams, who was voted this week by some linemen as the toughest pass rusher in the alliance he faced this season, scored 4.46 and Virginia defensive end Amare Barno at 246 pounds, a qualifying 4.36. Driven wide receiver.

And when linebackers took to the field to kick off Saturday night's workout, it was Montana State linebacker Troy Anderson who ran first, and came out fastest, clocking 4.41 at 40,243 pounds. .

Anderson tackled at the FCS level, but caught the attention of teams with his explosiveness against the nation's best during his week at the Senior Bowl in January. Anderson left Indy with a steady climb on some draft boards.

McShay's and Kiper Jr. Only one of the top two inside linebackers in the U.S. rankings - Devin Lloyd of Utah - did the job on Saturday. Lloyd did well in position drills to perform in the 40-yard dash with a 4.71. Nkobe Dean of Georgia did not take part in the workout.

Alabama's Christian Harris, who was a semifinalist for the Boutcas Award last season, scored 4.44 and was the only other linebacker besides Anderson to score better than 4.5.
