Kelly Clarkson to pay ex $158K a month in spousal support

Kelly Clarkson will pay her ex husband $158,000 a month in spousal support and $63,000 in child support even though she will have custody.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock reached a settlement in their long and drawn out divorce.

TMZ reported that the two settled on a custody and support arrangement.

According to the outlet, the American Idol alum will inherit most of the wealth shared during their marriage, reports The Sun.

Meanwhile, her estranged husband will get a lot of financial help.

LA Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon signed the agreement.

Kelly will get to keep custody of her and Brandon's two children while he will have them at his Montana home for one weekend a month.

That arrangement is subject to change in the event he moves from Montana to another state.

Kelly was given the purchase of the Montana ranch Shea and Brandon, although his former would continue to live there until June 1.

However, he must pay rent totaling $12,500 ($A17,000) per month.

Pretty penny

Brandon will be awarded $115,000 ($A158,000) monthly on behalf of his ex-wife.

However, the support agreement is only temporary.

It will expire in January 2024, according to TMZ's reporting.

In addition to that hefty, temporary, payout, Brandon will receive $45,600 ($A63,000) a month in child support, even though he is not the custodial parent.

This amount was set in an effort to ensure that the children would be comfortable in their own homes while they lived there.

According to TMZ, Kelly's legal council — Laura Wasser — could go to court for a readjustment if Brandon moves in and his overhead expenses change.

Additionally, the judge ordered Kelly to pay Brandon $1.3 million ($A1.8m) in a lump sum as part of the settlement.

Divorce drama

Kelly and Brandon's split was long and controversial.

The award-winning singer's ex challenges his prenup after the split.

At trial, the judge found the prenup valid, however, according to TMZ it was a major victory for Kelly.

According to the outlet, she earns around $20 million ($A27m) per year.

The outlet reported that his ex has no claim on that cash.

Kelly and Brandon were both considered legally single in September 2021.

The songwriter also dropped her husband's last name.

She is known professionally as Kelly Bryan – Brian is her middle name.

Kelly filed for divorce in Los Angeles on June 4, 2020, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason.

Since then the proceedings between them have heated up.

Clarkson met her music manager backstage as ex-husband at a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006.

The pair got engaged in December 2012 and married a year later at a luxury estate in Tennessee.

Kelly admitted that she "didn't see" the divorce coming on her show in 2020.

The musician opened up about their split during the September 21, 2020 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“2020 has been a dumpster fire,” the 39-year-old told his audience while welcoming him to the show.

“2020 has brought a lot of change in my personal life as well. Certainly didn't see anything coming that had come.

"But the work I'm doing is hard because it involves more than just my heart. It involves a lot of small hearts.

"You know, we have four kids and divorce is never easy, and we're both from divorced families, so we know the best thing to do is to protect our kids and their little hearts."

She also cried as she clicked through a newscast montage of the events of 2020.

Kelly recently opened up about her divorce with Willie Geist to Sunday TODAY, claiming her life was a "dumpster."

The Miss Independent singer said: "I mean, it's no secret. My life has been a little bit of a trash can.

"Personally, it's been a little tough the last few months."
