Robert agrees to the theory that Batman fights thugs to escape the death of his parents.

In a recent conversation, Robert Pattinson states that his character Batman mostly goes after low-level thugs because of past trauma involving the death of his parents, something he wants to live with again.

Robert Pattinson's portrayal of iconic superhero Batman in Matt Reeves' "The Batman" is set to hit screens Friday. Prior to the film's release, Robert discussed some fan theories about the film in a video conversation with co-actors Zo Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright and Paul Dano. During the conversation, Robert agreed with the oft-cited fan theory as to why Batman chooses to fight street-level thugs.

In the comics, Batman aka Bruce Wayne is a vigilante who fights criminals in the fictional city of Gotham. The film reboot takes a look at a young Batman who has recently taken over, and is, therefore, heavily focused on taking on street-level thugs. Many have theorized over the years that Batman doesn't kill criminals because he feeds on their existence.

In a video interaction for Vanity Fair, Robert touched on that theory, saying, "I think he continues to chase down low-level criminals every night partly to address the trauma of his past." Batman's parents - Thomas and Martha Wayne - were shot by a robber in an alleyway outside a cinema hall.

Robert continued, "He's not going after a corrupt president or anything at times. He's going after the same lowly thugs who killed his parents. He's fighting his parents in these dark alleys." -Keeps father almost alive."

Batman marks Robert's debut as the iconic superhero. The Matt Reeves film offers a look at a young Bruce, in which he played Batman, going toe-to-toe against a serial killer—the Riddler.

In previous interviews, the director has stated that he envisioned the film as a thriller to bring out the detective side of Batman, which has not been seen as much in films. In the comics, Batman is often referred to as 'the greatest spy in the world'. The film is releasing on March 4.
