ESPN Computer Releases A Bold Final Four Prediction

Now that the full 68-team field and men's NCAA Tournament bracket have been unveiled, it's time to choose.

ESPN's Basketball Power Index (BPI) has unveiled its first Final Four launches. BPI is "a measure of team strength that is the best predictor of performance going forward" and refers to "how many points a team has above or below average."

The computer thinks that the two teams (Gonzaga and Houston) will advance to the national semi-finals for the second year in a row, with two of the four one-seeds winning in their respective regions.

The BPI Final Four is as follows:

  • No. 1 seed Gonzaga (West): 56.9% chance of making the last four.
  • 1 seed Kansas (Midwest): 31.2% chance of making the Final Four.
  • No. 2 seed Kentucky (East): 30.2% chance of making the last four.
  • No. 5 seed Houston (South): 25.9% chance of making the Final Four.

The 2022 NCAA Tournament gets underway on Tuesday, with two "First Four" games in Dayton. The final two "First Four" games will also take place in Dayton on Wednesday.

The first round starts on Thursday afternoon and lasts till Friday. The tournament will conclude in New Orleans for April 2–4 with the Final Four set for 2022.
