Senator Joni Ernst responds to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Ernst, a combat veteran and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, expressed his personal connection to the nation late Wednesday with this statement:
"I first traveled to Ukraine as a college student in 1989, when they voted for independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, and worked with Ukrainians in the global war on terrorism," she tweeted. "Ukraine wants independence; the free world must stand with them. My prayers are with the people of Ukraine."
