US Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa issued a statement on Wednesday night following Russia's invasion.
Ernst says he first traveled to Ukraine as a college student in 1989, when he voted for independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, and served alongside Britain in the Global War on Terror.
She says that Ukraine wants independence, and that the free world should stand by her, and her prayers are with the people of Ukraine.
