Ranji Trophy | Karnataka need 6 wkts to win against J&K

Srinagar, February 26: Miracles will be expected for Jammu and Kashmir as they need 319 runs to win with just six wickets on the last day of their Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka at IIT Chemplast, Chennai on Sunday.

Jammu and Kashmir ended the third day at 189 for the loss of four wickets in their second innings on Saturday. He still needs 319 runs to win. Earlier, Karnataka had declared their second innings at 298 for the loss of three wickets. He set a target of 508 in front of Jammu and Kashmir.

Karnataka batted vigorously, resuming with a score of 128 runs for the loss of two wickets. The Karnataka duo of Karun Nair and Siddharth KV dashed hopes of giving J&K some sort of chance on a new day. Karnataka lost only one wicket on the day and declared their innings for 298 runs. The lone wicket fell for Siddharth, who scored 72 runs in 72 balls. Karun Nair remained unbeaten on 71 with Manish Pandey playing a quick 37 not out.

Abid Mushtaq took all three wickets for Jammu and Kashmir.

Chasing a mammoth target of 508 runs in their second innings, Jammu and Kashmir made a poor start at 53 for the loss of three wickets. He is followed by Fazil Rashid, who has led the order by 79 runs, with skipper Ian Dev. Fazil was dismissed after playing an innings of 65 runs. At the end of the day's play, Jammu and Kashmir were on 189 for the loss of four wickets. Ian Dev 65 and Abdul Samad are batting on 21 runs. Shreyas Gopal has taken three wickets for Karnataka while famous Krishna has taken one wicket.

Earlier, Karnataka had scored 302 runs in their first innings. Karun Nair played the highest innings of 175 runs. Parvez Rasool took four wickets for Jammu and Kashmir.

In reply, Jammu and Kashmir were bundled out for 93 runs. Kamran Iqbal scored the highest 35 runs.

Krishna famous for Karnataka took six and Vidyadhar Patil took two wickets. K Gotham and Shreyas Gopal took a wicket each.

It won't be easy for J&K to play a full day on the last day of the match and chase the total unless someone like Abdul Samad plays a real blind. He has potential and he showed it in the first match against Pondicherry. With the arrival of Parvez Rasool and all-rounders Abid Mushtaq and Aukibanbi, J&K's batting still has some life to offer.
