Unai Emery's Masterplan Helps Villarreal End Bayern Munich's 30-Game Scoring Streak In UCL

Unai Emery was championed by Arnaut Danjuma as a "tactical mastermind" as Villarreal beat Bayern Munich 1–0 with the forward's 15th goal of the season.

This resulted in Villarreal ending Bayern's scoring in 30 consecutive Champions League games in Spain.

Bayern's run was unbroken for more than three years, until February 2019 when they were held to a 0–0 draw at Liverpool.

Bayern will still look to qualify for the semi-finals in next week's second leg.

But Denjuma believes anything is possible with a manager like former Arsenal boss Emery.

Denjuma told a BT Sport reporter before the game that Emery was going to come up with a plan to stop Bayern.

After the match, the journalist asked Danjuma what Emery had instructed his players to do.

Danjuma replied with a smile and said: "I'm not sure I should keep it open at the moment because we still have the second leg to play.

"But I can assure you that Unai is a tactical mastermind.

"Their strategy always works for us. We trust our manager and our manager trusts us. It goes hand in hand."

Denjuma scored in the eighth minute on Wednesday.

The goal came when Giovanni Lo Celso reached the right byline and pulled the ball back to Daniele Parejo, whose off-target shot was redirected into the net by Denzuma.

Bayern dominated but Denzuma had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0.

He added: "It was only 1-0 and obviously I'm a little bit but disappointed with the chance I had. The sentiment is a bit questionable.

"I am grateful that I scored and helped the team take an early lead. I think it is very important, especially at home and especially against Bayern.

"We will make sure we are focused and ready for the second phase."
