STONEHAM (CBS) - A Massachusetts State Police personnel died Thursday morning following an accident on I-93 North in Stoneham. Shortly after midnight, a tanker truck rammed a state police cruiser driven by 34-year-old Trooper Tamar Bucci.
At the time, Bucci was pulling over to the side of the road to help a driver who had stopped in the breakdown lane. She was in a marked cruiser with an emergency blue light flashing.
The tanker truck contained 10,000 gallons of petrol.
Two Good Samaritans stop by to get the bookie out of his cruiser. A Stoneham police officer went to the scene and stopped to administer first aid until first aiders arrived.
After this the soldier was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.
"Despite the heroic efforts of civilians, Stoneham officers, Armstrong ambulance crew and emergency workers at MGH, Trooper Bookie, were pronounced dead at the hospital," Colonel Christopher Mason said at a media briefing Friday morning. "The department is devastated by his loss."
Sources tell WBZ-TV that investigators are looking at dash videos from the cruiser to the final moments before the crash.
The I-Team has learned that the Cruiser has three cameras: one at the front, one at the rear, and the third in the rear. The cameras start when the cruiser's light is activated but before that the video starts recording 60.
Bookie Woburn was a resident and was with the Massachusetts State Police for two years. She was a graduate of Andover High School and Middlesex Community College.
The state police said the truck driver, a Methuen man, was not hurt. He is cooperating and the police has questioned him. No charges have been filed, but according to I-Team sources, the driver's license has been suspended.
The driver of the disabled car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released. She told WBZ-TV that she stopped in a breakdown to use her GPS.
