Arya Aldrin, a medical student from Kerala, said she has some relatives in Munnar, where she will stay with her pet dog for a few days to help the pet adjust to the change in weather.
Kerala medical student Arya Aldrin (20), who earned praise for her struggle to bring back her pet dog from war-torn Ukraine, arrived at the Delhi airport on Thursday. Although she had the opportunity to leave the war-ravaged country, she refused to leave without her pet dog, the Siberian Husky.
“I was determined that Zaira would support me if I went back to my country. I tried really hard and was forced to question at many points. Some people laughed at me. On one route I had to walk 20 kms so I was forced to dump my cloth bags to carry Zaira. I am relieved that Zaira is with me. She will take a connecting flight to Kochi in the evening. She said she had to work for two days to prepare the documents for her pet.
A picture of Arya traveling with her pet in an evacuation bus has gone viral on social media. She boarded a flight from Bucharest, Romania, on Wednesday night. “Six month old, pet dog is not used to long walks. He fully cooperated with me. At one point she was tired as blisters were visible on her feet so I threw away my bag to carry her,” Arya said in Delhi. She said that she has some relatives in Munnar, where she will stay with Zaira for a few days so that the pet can adjust to the change in weather.
Many took to social media to appreciate her commitment to the young girl and her pets. Kerala Education Minister V Shivankutty was also among those who praised him. Praising her in her Facebook post, the minister wrote, "It is born out of love and I am sure the world will benefit from such love."
