Jimmy Kimmel excuses Marco Rubio's 'incredibly stupid' leaving SOTU

Jimmy Kimmel didn't seem overly enthusiastic about President Joe Biden's first State of the Union address on Tuesday night, calling it a "tough speech" and joking that he "might have saved himself some time and just tweeted that Union The state of 'Malarkey AF'.

"The position of our union is as strong as that of Kim and Kanye right now," the late-night host said, noting that "not every lawmaker showed up to see the speech, which is not normal."

"One of those exiting tonight was Florida Senator Marco Rubio," Kimmel continued, explaining that the Republican lawmaker skipped the speech because he didn't want to take the necessary COVID tests.

"I don't have time to take a COVID test today," Rubio complained earlier in the day. "I only take a test when I'm sick."

“Which, since you can and do spread COVID without any symptoms, is an incredibly silly thing to say,” Kimmel said in response. "But, in fairness, that's what Marco Rubio does. He's very on-brand. You know why he wouldn't do that, right? You know why he wouldn't take it? Because if they were to sweep his nose at If so, it will probably be a positive test for Donald Trump's butt."

Speaking of the former president, Kimmel expressed disbelief in a poll that found 62 percent of Americans believe Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if Trump were still president. "As far as remembering this fairy tale about his getting tough on Putin, when our American intelligence informed our president that Russia did everything they could to disrupt our election? " He asked. "And then when given the choice to side with Putin or our own FBI and CIA, guess which one they chose?"

"Your tough guy on Russia," Kimmel said after playing a clip of Trump's infamous Helsinki summit press conference. "What happened there Mr. Tough Guy looked into Putin's eyes and soaked his dependents."
