Will Smith's I Am Legend franchise is set to begin shooting for its second installment starring Michael B. But, was Will killed in the first film?
Oscar-winning author Akiva Goldsman, who adapted Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name for the 2007 film, is returning to continue the science-fiction saga on it.
The 2007 film starring Will Smith saw him navigate through the nearly deserted post-apocalyptic New York City littered with zombies. The film saw tremendous success at the box office but its ending left many fans dissatisfied.
Will Smith Die In 'I Am Legend'?

Fans who have read the novel know that its actual ending was never adapted into the cinema.
The film reveals that Will Smith's character, Robert Neville, dies.
In the climax, he draws blood from the Darkseeker test subject and gives it to Anna and her son, and tells them to take refuge in a coal mine. It is said that there is a cure in the blood
After sending Anna off, he agrees to sacrifice the hero after ensuring that the cure is not lost forever. Taking one last look at the photos of Zoe and Marley, our hero charges into a pile of Darkseekers with a grenade in his hand.
Fans are still not happy that he dies at the end of the film.
What happens in the alternate ending?
What many fans don't know is that I Am Legend had an alternate ending that didn't make the dramatic cut.
In contrast, the alternate ending sees Neville learning that the reason these creatures attack his home is because their leader's significant other is one of his "test subjects".
The novel shows that the creatures are intelligent and also have a form of communication. Neville soon learns that he has become a monster to the Darkseekers, who are trying to protect their kind.
In the alternate ending of I Am Legend, Neville finally decides to give up his research, seek treatment, and move to Vermont with Ethan and Anna. In the end, he learns that he is not that righteous after all.
