USC will extend the contract of men's basketball head coach Andy Enfield, athletic director Mike Bohn announced Wednesday in a media release. The contract will last for the 2027–28 season.
The decision follows USC's most victorious regular-season record in the program's history, as the Trojans achieved an overall record of 25–6 and entered the Pac-12 tournament as the No. 3 seed. In the 2020-21 season, USC posted an overall record of 25-8 and reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years. Trojans are currently ranked 21st in the country.
Should Anfield see a contract extension, he would become the second most tenured coach in the program's history, behind Forrest Twogood's leadership from 1950 to 1966. Enfield holds the NCAA Tournament performance record with a total of three so far under a head coach in the program's history. ,
"I am extremely proud of the success our players have achieved on the court and academically," Anfield said in a media release. "I also want to acknowledge how fortunate I am to be surrounded by excellent coaches and staff, and to recognize my fans and students because their enthusiasm and energy are a tremendous asset."
According to 247Sports, USC's 2022 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 6 in the nation. The program has produced several NBA draft lottery picks over the years, with the likes of forward Oneka Okongwu and Evan Mobley selected by the Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers, respectively, in the last two drafts. Five Trojans have been drafted into the NBA during Anfield's tenure.
Enfield broke the record for the longest winning streak against crosstown rivals, with UCLA scoring five consecutive wins with USC's 67–64 victory over the Bruins at the Gallen Center on February 12. The win surpassed the previous record of four consecutive wins from 2015. 2017 and from 2008 to 2011.
"In our three years working together, our men's basketball program has been a phenomenal success and the national landscape of college basketball has taken notice," Bonn said in the release. "This is a testament to Andy's leadership of the program, our coaches and support staff, and our talented basketball players."
The Trojans of Anfield will face Washington at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday for the Pac-12 tournament. in Las Vegas.
