Marcus Rashford scored in the third minute of extra time to give Manchester United a 1-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Both sides are battling for a place in the top four and the win sends United with a game over West Ham.
"If you score in the last seconds of the game that's the best kind of win, a clean sheet. I think in the end we deserved to win. Playing West Ham requires patience. In the end There were moments I wished we would have passed the ball instead of shooting from anywhere," United coach Ralph Rangnick said after the match.
"Keeping in mind that we played against Brentford a few days ago, the team looked good physically. We knew it would require patience, the way we played defensively, balls won back I was really happy with it."
Bruno Fernandes hit Cristiano Ronaldo in a cross after 20 minutes in the first half and the 36-year-old was inches away from putting it in the net.
Ronaldo's penalty call was turned down 15 minutes later when Kurt Zouma brought him down in the box.
Jarrod Bowen had a chance to put the visitors ahead early in the second half when he brought the ball to his chest on the edge of the box but his shot went into the side netting.
Instead, it was Rashford who got the last gasp winner after Ronaldo played the ball to substitute Edinson Cavani, who cut it back at the England youth international for a tap.
A VAR check took place after the goal to see if Cavani was offside in the build up, but the goal was allowed.
"It's obviously an important goal and a wonderful feeling so late. We have to use that winning spirit. We could have been a little better on the ball but managed to get the target we needed and Can now use that as inspiration, Rashford said after the match.
"When two teams are so close in the table, both are fighting to be in front of each other and today we managed to get there. We are in fourth place now, some teams have games to play, But it's good in that case.
"Winning is important, when you win, win consistently, you can really start going on a run and that gives confidence to everyone.
"It's been a tough week for us, there have been many games in a week, so a break is needed. It will be good for us."
Anthony Marshall was brought in on 82 minutes for Mason Greenwood, shortly after his public spat with Rangnick.
Rangnik said Marshall did not want to be part of the squad for last week's Aston Villa game and the 26-year-old hit back on social media, saying he would never refuse to play for United at the club. However, the coach said that the pair negotiated and settled their differences.
