Things went... ask, shall we say. Mark has to uproot his wife Maggie (Lisa Kudrow) and their teenage daughter. Erin (Diana Silvers) from Washington, D.C., Colorado; Maggie was devastated by the move, and for some reason that remained a secret throughout Season 1, she ended up in prison with a 40-year sentence. Erin missed her friends and bonded more with astronaut Angela (Tanny Newsom) than her schoolmates; Mark Butted Heads with "F. Tony" (Ben Schwartz), the Space Force's cunning social media director; Mark also suspects his colleague and lead scientist, Dr. Adrian Mallory (John Malkovich), of being a spy and in the process and Adrian's assistant Dr. Chan Kaifang (Jimmy O. Yang) tries to build a social life by proving himself to Adrian at work.

It all pays off in the short – seven episode – sophomore season, as the characters develop gracefully, and new connections lead to the emergence of a working family that takes on the political agenda of the government, military rivals, and anything romantic. ready for. Entanglements can throw your way.

Rotten Tomatoes talked to Schwartz, Silver, Newsom, and Yang about the new season and came up with some reasons you might want to consider a Space Force binge in your weekend plans.

1. Tony's Rise

Tony, we learn, is somewhat misunderstood, and his relationship with Boss Mark takes a turn who, with his maturity, makes Tony one of the most beloved members of the Space Force.

“It was something that we were trying to play up a little bit in Season 1, and I got to talk to all the writers and (series co-creator) Greg (Daniels), we all got along differently.. .and we talked about things that we thought, and I was like, 'We really think Mallory is someone Tony can talk to, but Mark Naird is someone he's always wanted to impress is," Schwartz says.

And, as viewers learn, there's a really good reason why Tony looks to Mark for a mentor/father bond.

"It was great to play," he continues. “It is always so much fun to play a comic character who also has a grounded nature. And you can also see where the comedy comes from and where does the pain come from. So all that stuff was a lot of fun. ,

2. love is in the air

Romance takes center stage in Season 2 for Mark and Maggie, and for Chan and Angela as well, though it hasn't been smooth sailing for either couple.

"I like how they developed this year, and there's been a lot of mutual growth between the two," Yang says of the new workplace couple. "So in a way, maybe they're fine without each other, but at the same time they still like each other a lot, without giving in too much. So it might actually be possible either way, but I guess I want to see a happy ending.

Newsom jokes about what she sees for Chan and Angela's future: "I'm going to be bold, and I'm going to say marriage and five kids."

3. Erin's Internship

Erin spends too much time with her father's coworkers this season, and it has a big impact on her decisions about her future. Silver has some great bonding moments with Malkovich's Adrian, and — spoiler alert — guest star Patton Oswalt who plays... well, you'll see. But it's a great scene that helps Erin choose a surprising path that really means a lot in the end.

"The episode was just so well written," says Silver. "It was one of those episodes, I think, that was so important, and the intention was everything, so it was so easy to connect with Erin and come to that conclusion and that decision."

4. Double Yang Effect

Yang played double duty in his role as Chan and as one of Space Force's writers this season.

5. Maggie Question

And finally, the question that lingered at the end of Season 1 may or may not be answered this season. So we asked the cast what their theories are about why Maggie is going to be in prison for the next four decades.

Newsom says: "It must be some kind of federal crime, because her prison, security seems real loose, so it doesn't seem like a place where violent criminals live. And I don't think Maggie would have done anything violent. So I don't know. I think he sold some secret or something, but I don't know how that doesn't canned Mark Naird. My best guess is treason."

Schwartz: "I think she was selling illegal Beanie Babies, and she did something with Illegal Beanie Babies, and then she aimed to go to jail, because she needed a break."
