This is Lexi's world and we are all living in it in Episode 7 of Euphoria Season 2. The opening night of Lexie (played by Mod Apatow) drama is finally here and if you didn't think Season 2 was dramatic enough, grab your popcorn and settle down. Down because in Episode 7 you'll feel all kinds of emotions. It's so complicated and cool, you'll want to watch it twice.
Episode 7 deftly, if a bit dizzy, shone between the drama, the real-life moments that took place off stage in the present and past, and the audience reaction to what they're seeing. In one of those current moments, FaZe (Angus Claude) is preparing to head out to Lexie's drama (wearing a suit with roses in hand), but it's not quite. Well, as far as we know...
'Euphoria' season 2, episode 7 recap
Lexi
OK, so this isn't an Oklahoma performance! Sure. This is the story of Lexi Howard and her life.
Lexie's drama begins by throwing some shade at her sister Cassie, pointing out their differences while also acknowledging how much she wanted to be as a child. The actress who plays Cassie on stage is hilarious and has taken her mark to a T.
As Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) watches from the audience with tears in her eyes, the scene turns into a real-life conversation between Lexie and her older, "more attractive" sister.
Through Lexi's eyes, viewers learn that their relationship changed after her father left and Cassie became friends with Maddie (Alexa Demi). Her father's absence may also suggest that Cassie needs validation from men, even if they treat her terribly.
One thing is clear: Lexie was sidelined as she and her sister hit their teens and, as a result, she tried to maintain her friendship with Rue (Zendaya), who was slowly falling apart.
Rue
As Rue watches from the audience, she can't take her eyes off Jules (Hunter Schaefer), who also turns around to try to catch Roe staring. The pair haven't spoken since Jules attempted to intervene, except for an awkward encounter where Rue half-heartedly asks "Super?"
In her play, Lexie recounts the moment she was on Rue after her father's funeral took drugs and their friendship was fractured. The episode then shifts from Lexie's stage to show a real-life moment between the pair in Rue's bedroom that day, with Rue fainting in bed and Lexie trying to recite a soothing poem.
In the present day and away from Lexie's drama, Rue hangs out at home with her mother Leslie (Nika King), who allays her fears that Rue will end her life. She also makes a heartbreaking confession that if she has to save one of her daughters, she will save Gia (Storm Reed) - a choice that Roo favors.
In an emotional scene, Leslie reveals that Gia is struggling in school - skipping classes and landing in detention. In response to Rue's anger, Leslie shared her concerns for Gia's mental and physical health, claiming that her sister was "well."
The only good thing that took away from Rue's situation in Episode 7 is that she seemed really healthy and happy for the first time in a while. Let's hope it works.
Fez
Far from Lexi's drama, one of the big stories that plays out in real time is about Fez.
For weeks, Euphoria fans have been pushing to bring FaZe and Lexi together and after the emotional "Stand by Me" singalong in Episode 6, things looked set to take a romantic turn.
In episode 7, Fez is getting ready to move on to Lexi's play. Dressed in a suit and carrying a bunch of roses, he asks Fay (Chloe Cherry) whether she should wear a tie or not. Things look great, but Ash (Javon "Wanna" Walton) can feel something is amiss when Faye's on-off boyfriend Custer (Tyler Chase) arrives.
Custer—who is cooperating with the police investigating the disappearance of Mouse (Miko Gattuso)—arrives before Fez invites Chloe to talk to her in her bedroom. He seems to have kept his phone so that he can record his conversations with Fez and Ash, especially after he encourages Fay to "keep calm" and prompts her to bring Fez back to the living room.
Ash, armed with a knife, is sitting in front of Custer. He knows something is happening and Fez, who is about to walk out the door, can sense it too. Unfortunately, Fez gets that much screen time in episode 7.
It looks like FaZe didn't make it to Lexie's game, but here's hoping it isn't because the police have locked her up.
Until Ash uses that knife, hopefully things will be fine.
Cassie and Maddy
The next scene in Lexie's play explores the friendship between Maddie and Cassie and how the pair were once inseparable, with a tearful crowd in the crowd flashing for Maddie and Cassie.
Finally, Euphoria fans are waiting for the dramas on the screen. Lexie's drama is cut short after Maddie (thanks to Rue) learns of Cassie and Nate's secret relationship.
The last time we saw Maddie and Cassie together, there was Cassie, wearing a rosy pink hoodie, running up the stairs while Maddie followed her. After it turns out that Cassie has locked herself in her bathroom, Maddie knocks on the door, yelling for her to come out. You may have noticed that this is the same scene of Maddie knocking on the bathroom door after Cassie slept with Nate in the new year.
Unfortunately, the scene ends before Cassie can exit the bathroom, but on the other side of the door, Maddie breaks into Kat's (Barbie Ferreira) arms, crying in disbelief that her best friend will do this, eventually leading to Nate. put it. Through him.
Also in the present day - and more to be explored in next week's finale - Maddie receives an unexpected gift from her employer, Samantha (Minka Kelly). In the bag is the purple dress that Samantha wore in episode 1 of season 2, which Maddie helped take off. What kind of game is Samantha playing here or is she just trying to be nice?
Nate
So, Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie are together but if episode 7 of Euphoria makes one thing clear, it's that Nate has absolutely no idea who he wants to be with. How she's wearing Maddie's clothes with Jules-style makeup and a little bit of how she glows. This heated disturbance becomes all too evident through Nate's nightmares, including flashbacks of his relationship with Maddie, Jules and her father's sexual encounters, and even his future with Cassie. Contains scenes of having sex with his father. Talk about Nate's head being completely screwed.
So far in the drama, Nate has mostly gone unheard, but this changes in the final moments of the episode. Lexie stages a locker-room scene where a character who is definitely inspired by her is working out before football practice. This is followed by a gay performance by an all-male football team in Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero".
In the audience, Nate clenches his fist (with his sexual frustration and the toxic masculinity he grapples with) and Cassie tries to calm him down. In the end, he drops out of the theatre. Cassie runs after him, yelling that she doesn't know about the content of Lexie's play. Nate couldn't believe him for a second. "She's your sister," he cries angrily, asking her to move out of their house and they "get over."
Episode 7 ends on a disappointing cliffhanger with a furious Cassie staring at the theater. As the screen turns black, the words "to continue" appear. Is the phase ok? What will Casey do next? Where is Nate? Everything will be known in next week's finale.
