LE SUEUR COUNTY, Minn. (WCCO) - Officials in Minnesota are investigating a home explosion that killed a woman who was sitting at home there.
Smoke rose from a hole in the ground in rural Lexington Township, Minnesota, with all that was left of a house that exploded late Friday.
The Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office says the crew arrived at around 11:30 p.m. To set fire to a collapsed house. They say that the owners of the house were gone, but a woman was looking after and caring for the dogs. His body was found in the basement.
Friends identified the victim as 20-year-old Callie Mach, a student at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, where she was expected to pursue elementary education.
"She always talked about how she was going to change the world by teaching the next generation," wrote her friend Shelby Rae. "If she was having a bad day, she didn't care. If you told her you were upset, she wouldn't rest until she told you to smile."
She says that Mach was proud of her Czech heritage, loved to dance and was the kind of friend who always wanted to bring people together.
The sheriff's office and the Minnesota Fire Marshal's office are working together to determine the cause of the explosion.
