Tennis-Swiatek outlasts Kanepi to set up semis date with Collins

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - French Open winner Inga Swietake broke down a set and a brutal heat to reach her maiden Australian Open semi-final with a 4-6 7-6(2) 6-3 victory over Estonian Kaia Kanepi on Wednesday .

Kanepi, 36, appeared ready to advance to the last eight at a Grand Slam for the first time when she won the opening set and broke early in the second, with a frustrated Sweetek slapping herself and slamming her racket onto the court.

But Pole, who committed 12 double faults in the match, regained his composure and raised his level in the second-set tiebreaker to level the competition at 1-1.

Svetek suffered two more breaks in the decider, but managed to break 115th-placed Kanepi four times when the Estonian sent a backhand wide for his 62nd unforced error.

Swietec will face American Danielle Collins, seeded 27, who defeated French woman Elisé Cornet 7-5, 6-1 on Wednesday to make the final.
