The only thing he shoveled in was his social media grave.
A Canadian politician is being rebuked online after he shared a photo on Twitter that showed his wife covered in snow after a 12-hour hospital shift. The fat tweet currently has over 19,000 retweets and nearly 40,000 likes as of Monday morning.
In a controversial message posted Saturday morning, Manitoba Cabinet Minister John Reyes wrote, "Even after a 12-hour night shift at the hospital last night, my wife still has the energy to shovel the driveway."
"God bless him and all our frontliners," he said. "Time to make her some breakfast."
An accompanying photo taken from inside the home shows Reyes' wife, Cynthia, digging snow from their driveway while bundled up in a "Fargo"-esque winter coat.
According to TimeAndDate.com, the mercury dropped to a bone-chilling -2 degrees Fahrenheit in Winnipeg on Saturday morning.
Suffice it to say, the photo didn't sit well with the Twitter Peanuts gal, who wondered why Reyes didn't extend a helping hand.
"Why are you looking and not shoveling? This tweet sucks,” wrote one critic of Gaff, while another wrote, “He saw his wife shovel after a 12 hour shift and her first thought was to let me tweet about this lol.
"She was mopping in the 12 hours after your government's disaster, didn't you get some time to shovel it yourself?" One unreliable commenter alienated, possibly referring to Manitoba's recent COVID spike.
One critic tweeted a share video of a man in a bathrobe looking out and captioned it, "Let me take a picture."
Another witty Reyes offered her troubled spouse a ham-hand for breakfast, "Hmm... I wonder if she wants Strawberry or Brown Sugar Pop-Tarts."
However, Cynthia Reyes herself has come to her husband's defense, claiming in a recent tweet that he volunteered to shovel the driveway.
Still, uncompromising Twitter critics joked that Reyes made her a Twitter profile just to defend herself.
