Bullets stun Kings in comeback NBL win

Brisbane inflicted more misery on the Sydney Kings in the fourth quarter in a contest to win 96–87 at the Nissan Arena.

It was déj vu again after leading the game through three quarters before capitulating in the final 10 minutes for the Kings (3-6), as they did in their last outing against the New Zealand Breakers.

Chase Buford's team dominated the game after dominating the first 30 minutes, but Brisbane star trio Nathan Sobe, Lamar Patterson and Robert Franks combined to propel their side to an impressive comeback victory.

Sobe had an efficient night with 30 points in 8 of 15 shootings, with four rebounds and four assists, to register his fourth 30 or more games at home.

Franks and Patterson had 16 players and the latter scored another double-double for the season.

The win ended the Bullets (4-3)'s dreaded Friday night record at home, winning their first game in nine games.

Losing 31–16 at the end of the first quarter, Brisbane turned their offense on Chief Patterson, who teamed up with Jason Cady to get the home team back on the field.

The pair then added Franks and Sobe more in the second half, with the Bullets scoring 61 points, 31 of which came in the final quarter.

Cady's 18 points, including five three-pointers, brought back the crowd and energy in the match as the Kings had no answer for the streaking hosts.

The veteran also brought up his 500th NBL career triple in 320 games, with his 501st dagger taking the game out of sight.

Bullets coach James Duncan said of Cady, "(She) is very calm, confident of putting herself in the right place, very positive with the group, understanding what we are trying to do." And he moved it aggressively."

"And he was locking in defensively which is huge for us."

The King's night turned sour when center Xavier Cook was kicked out in the first half after a non-player foul, before retorting the referee.

Coach Buford said he did not like the decision and it changed the course of the competition.

"Obviously changed the game quite a bit - we were plus 17 with Javier on the floor," he said.

"He obviously must have helped us because he is not one of our best players.

"I told the boys' locker room that we've had six losses - four games, we've been the better team for three quarters, and we have to find ways to finish games better."

Jaylen Adams was a bright spark for the visitors with her 33 points, while Dejan Vasiljevic added 21 and Jarell Martin added 18 points and 12 boards.
