Betty White’s cause of death revealed, agent denies she got booster days before

Betty White died as a result of "natural causes" less than three weeks before her 100th birthday, her agent said Monday.

"Betty died peacefully in her sleep at her home," the agent, Jeff Vitjas, who was also a close friend of White, said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Vitjas also dismissed a controversial report that claimed White had just taken a COVID-19 booster shot on December 28.

“People are saying that his death was related to getting booster shot three days back, but it is not true. She died of natural causes,” he told the magazine. "His death should not be politicized - that is not the life he lived."

In a new interview with Page Six, White's "Mama's Family" co-star Vicki Lawrence revealed that the cultural icon called out late husband Alan Luden's name moments before he died.

"I texted Carol [Burnett] and said, 'This just sucks. I hate it. It's awful to see the people you love so much go away,'" shared Lawrence, 72. "Carol wrote back and said, 'I know, I know. I spoke to Betty's assistant, who was with her when she passed by, and she said the last word from her mouth was 'Alan'.

White was a Hollywood fixture for more than eight decades and became a household name thanks to her roles in "The Golden Girls" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

News of the 99-year-old's death came on December 31 when LAPD officers answered a call at 9:30 a.m. at his home in Brentwood, Calif.

Vitjas later confirmed that her beloved client had died, telling People on New Year's Eve, "Even though Betty was about to turn 100, I thought she would live forever.

“I will miss her dearly and the animal world she loved dearly. I don't think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her dearest husband, Alan Luden. He believed she would be with him again."

The eight-time Emmy winner died shortly after speaking to people to celebrate her 100th birthday.

White told the outlet she was "in such good health," later quipping, "I try to avoid anything green. I think it's working."

Fans and friends alike paid tribute to the late entertainer, who set the record for the longest TV career in Hollywood.

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden also expressed grief over White's passing, with POTUS calling her "a lovely lady."

"It's a shame," he told reporters. "Ninety-nine years old. As my mother would say, God loves her."

"Who doesn't love Betty White?" The first lady shouted. "We are very sad."
