Five years ago, all-rounder Jayant Yadav scored a century against England in Mumbai showing his batting skills. He broke many records with the bat along with Virat Kohli.
After a long wait of almost 5 years, Jayant Yadav increased his Test cap on the first day of the ongoing Test match in Mumbai. The all-rounder was confirmed to sit on the bench for stability. However, an injury to Ravindra Jadeja paved the way for Jayant's comeback. Jadeja is the leader of India's all-rounder attack and plays the game when he is fit.
Jayant, who earned his first India call-up in 2016, has played 4 Tests and 1 ODI so far. The 31-year-old scored 228 runs in red-ball cricket and took 11 wickets. Interestingly, Jayant scored his maiden Test century in 2016 against England in Mumbai.
As Jayant prepares to walk out to bat for the second day, we take a look back at the Mumbai Test match and take a look at some of the records he broke -
Making his debut in the second Test of the series, Jayant showed signs of being a complete all-rounder, scoring 35 and 27* and picking up 4 wickets. In the Mohali Test, he scored 55 runs in the first innings and dismissed 4 batsmen again.
In Mumbai, Jayant went to his field and crossed the three-figure mark for the first time at the highest level. He came out to bat when India were bowled out for 364 for 7 in response to England's score of 400. The home team was close to total but didn't have a good chance of taking the lead.
Yes, Virat Kohli was still out, but no one expected India to end at 631. Courtesy of Jayant and Kohli's 241-run stand, India took a massive 231-run lead.
The moment he crossed the 100-run mark, Jayant became the first Indian batsman to score a century while batting at number 9. He holds the record for most runs scored by a No. 9 Indian batsman.
