Texas Rangers vs Toronto Blue Jays Preview
It is the home opener for the Toronto Blue Jays, who look to pick up where they left off in 2021: looking for a postseason berth. They were one game short of the wild card spot last season. With a stacked lineup that includes Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer, Bo Bichet, Teoscar Hernandez and a lineup that features elite talent like Kevin Gossman, Berios, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Alec Manoa, Toronto hopes to be one of the best. Have teams in baseball in 2022.
As for the Texas Rangers, they went 60–102 last season, resulting in a fifth consecutive season loss. They haven't finished a season above .500 since the 2016 campaign, the last time they made the playoffs. Texas is looking to break that streak this season, as they hit the jackpot in free agency by bringing in Corey Seeger and Marcus Semien (who was the Blue Jays last season), as well as John Gray and Cole Calhoun.
By signing Seeger and Semien, the Rangers formed arguably the best middle field in baseball. Rangers are still in rebuilding, but they appear to be in better shape in the 2022 season, looking to win more games and surprise some. The farming system is in trend, the big league team has improved and suddenly things feel more optimistic at Arlington than they have been in years. There's no real hope: it's just time to play ball and see where the season takes us.
Texas won't have their home opener until Monday, April 11, when they face the Colorado Rockies at Globe Life Field. Taylor Hearn would take the mound in that game.
