Phoenix Suns arranges a franchise with 63rd victory over La Lakers

The Phoenix Suns have been a major center of excellence throughout the season. They have been the most consistent team, sometimes winning even with their stars injured or ill.

The squad appeared to be "out of their game" early in the season, when Phoenix walked out of the gate with a 1–3 record. That was, until earlier this week, when the Suns dropped consecutive games for the Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder.

But while back on the floor of their house tonight, and with LeBron James sitting outside, the Sons won't allow history to deny them any more.

Phoenix Suns beat the Los Angeles Lakers, breaking their season win record

The Sons entered tonight's bout and naturally looked a bit unsuccessful after their two straight losses. Said games originally looked like easy dubs for the good guys, but were far from it.

The Grizzlies took the field without their star at Ja Morante, but still won with a final score of 122–114. A few days later, an incredibly young Thunder team blew Phoenix out with a barrage of triples, making a 117–96 mess.

Only needing to win one more game to break their franchise's winning record, Phoenix fans, and likely players, both became hungry for that coveted dub as the days passed. So when the Los Angeles Lakers were walking downtown tonight, everyone was biting.

Although the Sons had already struggled to take down the Grizzlies and Thunder, many didn't know what to expect ahead of tonight's contest. But after some initial back-and-forth action, any concerns that No. 63 might not make it in time to win, easily vanished, as the Sons climbed to a 121-110 victory.

Devin Booker led the Suns with 32 points, shooting 6-9 from downtown. Deandre Ayton trickled in with 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Chris Paul added six points and 12 assists. The Sons officially wrapped up that 63rd win, eclipsing the team's previous record of 62 wins held by the 1992–93 Suns and 2004–05 Suns.

Three games still stand between Phoenix and the postseason, leaving more room to improve that record if they please. Doing so this week promises to be a fun task, now that all that record-based pressure is gone and every game is worth a scrimmage from here on out.

Regardless, the main purpose of the phoenix is further down the line, painted in gold and named "Larry O'Brien". But for now, it would be wise for the fans to enjoy the moment. If anything, it cements this year as one of Phoenix's finest, and allows the team to build up even more momentum as they prepare to go after the ultimate goal of winning the championship.
