Man United woes continue with defeat at relegation-threatened Everton

Manchester United's chances of a top-four spot in the Premier League were dented after a 1-0 loss to struggling Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Anthony Gordon's first half strike became the winner as Everton claimed a crucial victory in their fight to avoid relegation.

The result saw Ralph Rangnik's side fail to win a third consecutive game in all competitions and remain seventh in the league table.

It was a major victory for Frank Lampard's side, who moved four points out of the relegation zone with fellow strugglers Burnley.

The visitors started well and Marcus Rashford made two astonishing saves from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford within the opening 15 minutes.

United dominated but Everton took the lead against run-of-play after 26 minutes when Gordon's shot removed Harry Maguire and David de Gea off the wrong foot.

The hosts began to move into the game after goal and nearly doubled their lead after 35 minutes but De Gea denied Richardson's deviant effort.

Everton disappointed United in the second half and both teams failed to create many clear chances.

Cristiano Ronaldo forced Pickford into a late save but United disappointed after the break and Everton scored a deserved win.

Everton are four points behind 18th-placed Burnley, who travel to Norwich City on Sunday.

Rangnik voiced the changes, but it had little effect, as United look to end another disappointing season – five years without a trophy come to the end of the campaign, and nine since their last league win.
