LOS ANGELES - The USC baseball team jumped into an early lead and won a late win by beating No. 15 UCLA 7-4 at Westwood on Friday night.
USC scored four runs in the second inning and three late insurance runs, reducing their record to 10–2 in the year and extending the team's winning streak to eight games. UCLA came down to 9-5 with a loss.
After UCLA came up with the first run, the Trojans responded in the second. Garrett Guillemette sang home Trevor Halsema and then Nick Lopez hit a sacrificial fly to propel USC. Tyler Lozano made it 4-1 in the right field with a two-out, two-run shot.
The Bruins made a run back on the groundout in the fifth and then made things interesting with two runs in the ninth, but Nate Clough came in and was dismissed in the final for the Trojans, trapping a pair of runners in the process. .
Jaden Agassi initially gave up the first run while tossing in 4.2 innings. Carson Lambert took over for Agassi in fifth and would toss a scoreless 2.0 before giving way to Matt Keating. Keating entered seventh and pulled USC out of the jam, trapping first and third-place runners.
Adrian Colon-Rosado added two runs in the seventh and Rylan Thomas had an RBI single in the ninth for USC.
