Toffoli's pair of goals against Oilers pushes Flames to 14th win in last 16 games

Tyler Toffoli scored twice for the Calgary Flames in a 3-1 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

Jonny Goudreau had one goal and one assist for the Flames (34–14–7), finishing at the top of the Pacific Division with a 14th win in his last 16 games.

Edmonton (30-23-4) remained two points out of a wild-card berth in the Western Conference.

Jacob Markstrom intercepted 27 of 28 shots in front of a season-high 17,246 at the saddledome. The arena holds 19,289.

In the first installment of the season's Battle of Alberta at Saddledome, Mikko Koskinen eliminated 26 of 29.

The December 23 game in Calgary was rescheduled due to a COVID-19 outbreak amid the flames.

The Oilers defeated the Visiting Flames 5–2 on October 16 and 5–2 on January 22. Their regular-season series will conclude in Calgary on March 26.

Edmonton fell 7-5-1 since Jay Woodcroft took over as head coach for Dave Tippett, who was fired on February 10.

Calgary held the fourth-best power-play in the NHL at 0-for-4 in the game and went 1-for-4 with a one-man advantage.

Toffoli placed a short-handed breakaway from the post behind Koskinen in the middle of the opening period.

In the third, Koskinen stopped Mikel Backlund on another short-handed spot.

The Flames are at home to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, who face the Oilers in Edmonton on Wednesday.
