A storm moving through south-central Alaska is now expected to drop up to a foot of snow in the Anchorage region, and snowfall is expected by late afternoon.
An intense storm system south of the Kenai Peninsula prompted National Weather Service forecasters to upgrade their winter weather advisory to a winter storm warning effective as of 1 p.m. Sunday, with a total snowfall of 6 to 12 inches. Was till 2 to 4 inches of snow is possible in Eagle River.

National Weather Service forecaster Matthew Fazal in Anchorage said the heaviest snowfall is expected in the eastern part of the city, on Upper Hill and on Glen Highway.
"Light snowfall will continue till afternoon and then it will increase in intensity till afternoon," Fazal said.
Fazal said the situation is expected to improve by Sunday morning and the sky will remain clear and the temperature will remain around 30 at least.
Fazal said Saturday's temperatures will drop into the teens at least overnight in the low 30s.
