Kherson, a Ukrainian port city, was captured by Russian forces on Wednesday as the Kremlin's invasion of its neighbor became more brutal for the sixth day.
According to an Interfax report, Russia's Defense Ministry said that its forces had captured Kherson. The governor of the city previously said that Kherson is completely surrounded by Russians.
Russia said it would proceed with its military advances in Ukraine. Its attacks on Kharkiv, the country's second largest city, continued on Wednesday, with its mayor saying residential areas were being bombed.
Video circulating online of an apparent attack on the regional police and intelligence headquarters in Kharkiv showed the roof of a building blown up and its upper floor set on fire. The fragments of the five-storey building are scattered in the adjacent streets.
"No one will forgive. No one will forget," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed amid the bloodshed.

The Ukrainian government's Center for Strategic Communications released photos of the attack in Kharkiv on Wednesday, with fireballs lighting up the city skyline in populated areas.
In his first State of the Union address, US President Joe Biden called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a "tyrant" and said the latter would pay a high price for his invasion of Ukraine. Biden also spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the escalation of the attacks.
Meanwhile, China's foreign minister said Beijing was "extremely concerned" about the harm caused to civilians. It said one of its civilians was shot and wounded while leaving the war-torn nation.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said the incident happened on Tuesday when the man was leaving on his own. The Chinese Embassy in Kyiv immediately contacted the person to provide assistance.
