Mitch Garver traded to Texas Rangers in first trade after lockout

We discuss the trade that sends Mitch Garver to the Texas Rangers.

On Thursday, the first MLB trade since the end of the lockdown just went down. The Minnesota Twins are sending catcher Mitch Garver to the Texas Rangers and back to the Twins in the deal according to shortstop/catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa Jeff Passon.

The Kinner-Falefa side of the trade had been announced at first, but then news fell that Garver was a Minnesota piece moving back to the Rangers. It appears that Texas is fully headed into the 2022 season as they spent half a billion dollars to shore up their middle field by signing Corey Seeger and Marcus Semin to free agency. The other piece leading to the twins with Kinner-Falefa is right-handed pitcher Ronnie Henriquez.

Kinner-Falefa is primarily a shortstop, but he has the ability to play catcher at the big league level. He debuted with Rangers in 2018 and has been with the team for the last four seasons.

Garver debuted for the Twins in 2017 and has served as their primary catcher for the past four seasons. He brings high upside for the position for Rangers and can also be used as a DH as Rangers give more experience to their switch-hitting catcher, Jonah Heim.
