Illinois beats Iowa to claim a share of 2021-22 Big Ten regular season title

Illinois Fighting Illini defeated Iowa Hawkeye 74–72. The Hawkeyes were led by Keegan Murray. Murray scored 22 points on 31 percent shooting. Additionally, Murray had 11 rebounds. The Fighting Illini was led by Kofi Cockburn with 21 points on 52 percent shooting. Additionally, Cockburn had 14 rebounds.

After Illinois took a small lead to start the game, Iowa took control of the game. With almost three minutes remaining, Iowa had a 15-point lead. Illinois went 6–0 after scoring three by Andre Cerbello (not including the Cerbello three in the scoring run) making the game a 6-point game going into halftime.

After Alfonso Plummer incited a defender to foul at the three-point line, Illinois took the lead. Iowa responded quickly and scored 9–0. Iowa took a five-point lead with about 13 minutes remaining. He responded by making it a four-point game with almost 11 minutes remaining after an open RJ Melendez three.

Illinois took the lead with seven minutes remaining on the Coleman Hawkins Three. Murray took the lead for Iowa about a minute later. Lead shook hands again when Cockburn made the jumper. It looked like Illinois had a minute left on its hands. The Fighting Illini had a five-point lead and the ball and did a lay-up but the shot clock ran out.

Tony Perkins walks into the basket and makes a good lay. Also beat him up. Perkins made a free throw and Iowa got a defensive stop. With 20 seconds left, Hawkeye turned the ball down two. Jordan Bohannan gets the ball. Murray set up a screen and popped on top of the key. Murray was fouled and got three free throws. 1 in 3 went off the floor.

Iowa had to foul Illinois on the next possession. Hawkeye was lucky as da Monte Williams missed one of his two free throws. After rolling the ball around, Murray got a decent shot to win the game. Murray missed the shot and Illinois won.

The victory allowed Fighting Illini to be part of the big ten regular-season titles. Additionally, Illinois is the only seed in the Big Ten tournament due to this win. Illinois will face the winner of Indiana/Michigan in the quarterfinals.
