The Central Michigan gymnastics team posted a team total of 196.275 in a non-conference quad meet Friday at Huff Hall, Illinois.
This marked the fourth consecutive meeting in which the CMU has finished north of 196 since the Chippewa Central-American Conference finished before enemy Northern Illinois (194.475). Meets did not count in the league standings. CMU defeated the Huskies at their league meet on February 20 at NIU.
Illinois won Friday's quad with 197.125, followed by Boise State (196.550), Chippewas and NIU.
Chippewa kicks off the regular season at home with a MAC Duel against Ball State on Friday, March 11 (7 p.m.) and then watches the MAC Championship on Saturday, March 19 in Eastern Michigan.
Sierra Demarinis moved up the top spot for Chippewas on Friday as she finished second on floor exercises and second on balance beams. She posted a score of 9.900 in both the events. His beam score was a season high.
CMU's Taylor Pichel was fourth in the floor exercise, keeping his season high with 9.875.
Demarinis and teammate Avah Anthes finished third on the vault on 9.850, and Chippewas' Hannah Demers (9.875) finished fourth on the balance beam, matching her season and career-best scores in the event.
DeMers finished second all-around with 39.250 and was tied with ninth on the vault (9.825).
The vault score was a career high for Anthes, a newcomer.
CMU's top finisher on the uneven parallel bars was Audriana Hammond, who finished eighth in her season-high tally of 9.875.
