Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet may be reuniting on screen sooner than you think.
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter on March 8, Florence is currently in talks to appear as Princess Irulan, daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV, in Dune: Part 2. Both of these characters are reportedly in the process of being cast for a sequel, with Fede-Rautha being described as "the cunning nephew of the chief baron of House Harkonnen".
Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve, based on the Frank Herbert novel from 1965, premiered in the US in October 2021, after the COVID-19 pandemic delayed its original release by more than a year. The first installment of the Oscar-nominated film featured a star-studded cast with stars such as Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaacs, Jason Momoa, and Zendaya in the lead roles. Should Florence join in Part 2, the Dune saga's star power will increase even more.
This is the second time she and Timothy will share the casting of Florence on the big screen. The pair starred together in Greta Gerwig's 2019 adaptation of Little Women as Amy March and Theodore "Laurie" Lawrence, respectively. The film earned Florence her first and only Oscar nomination in the Supporting Actress category.
Dune: Part 2, which picks up right where Dune left off, is slated to premiere on October 20, 2023. The film is still in preproduction and, as THR notes, the script has yet to be finalized.
Filming for Dune: Part 2 is reportedly set to begin this summer, which means there could potentially be a scheduling conflict for Florence — she's currently playing the highly-competitive lead role in the upcoming biopic of Madonna. Looking out for it too.
THR notes that the war in Ukraine may also affect Dune: Production of Part 2, as part of filming, is expected to take place in Hungary, which shares part of its border with the invading country.
