English golfer Daniel Gavins shot 7-under 64 on Thursday with six birdies in seven holes around the turn and took a shock lead at the Kenya Open after the first round.
Ranked 190th, Gavins made a total of nine birdies at Nairobi's Muthaiga Golf Club.
Johannes Veerman of the United States and Shubhankar Sharma of India came second behind 66.
South Africa's Justin Harding, the defending champion of the European Tour event, was ninth with 68 runs.
