Big East Tournament: Rhoden helps Seton Hall edge Georgetown; Pirates face UConn in quarters

NEW YORK - Jared Roden posted 17 points as Seton Hall went past Georgetown 57-53 in first-round action of the Big East Conference tournament on Wednesday night.

Miles Kale had 14 points for the sixth-seeded Pirates (21-9). Alexis Yetna added 11 rebounds, while Ike Obiagu blocked seven shots.

Aminu Mohamed had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the 11th-seeded Hoyas (6-25). Donald Carey and Colin Holloway both scored 11 runs.

Seton Hall went on to play No. 3 seed Connecticut in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Butler 89, Xavier 82 (OT): Simas Lukosius hit a jumper on first possession in overtime to give ninth seed Butler the lead, not leaving it in the way of victory over eighth seed Javier.

He followed with a 3-pointer for 73-68 and after four free throws pulled the Shockers within one, Lukosius hit three points and scored 12 points in overtime.

Capping the second half that featured eight lead changes and four ties, Lukosius scored a pair of free throws on 68 with four seconds remaining in regulation and sent the game to overtime.

To lead the Bulldogs, Chuck Harris scored a season-high 29 points, tying his career high. Lukosius added 27 points and seven rebounds. Bryce Nez had 15 points and 15 rebounds for Butler (14-18).

Jack Nungay had 26 points and nine rebounds for the Musketeers (18-13). Paul Scruggs added 15 points, including a go-forward layup and six assists with eight seconds to go in overtime. Colby Jones had 14 points and six rebounds.

St. John's 92, DePaul 73: Julian Champagne had 26 points as St. John beat DePaul. Steph Smith had 13 points for St John's (17–14). Esahia Nyiwe added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Jevon Freeman-Liberty had 17 points and six rebounds for the Blue Demons (15-16). Nick Ongenda added 13 points and Brandon Johnson 11 points.
