When KPAC Lalitha romanced Mammootty on screen for ‘Kanalkkattu’

Legendary Malayalam actress KPAC Lalitha is no more. The National Award winning actress passed away on Tuesday (February 22) at around 10:30 pm. She was 74 years old. KPAC Lalitha's demise has left an irreplaceable void in Malayalam cinema. In his career spanning over five decades, he has worked with people from Malayalam cinema, and shared the screen with megastar Mammootty several times.

Some of the most iconic characters played by KPAC Lalitha, which also featured Mammootty, were for the films 'Kanalakkattu' and 'Mathilukal'.

KPAC Lalitha romanced Mammootty on screen in 'Kanalakkattu'. Her character named Omna made the audience laugh and she also got teary-eyed. Omana worked as a maid to make a living, and due to some circumstances, married Nathu Narayanan (Mammootty). Even though their romance in the initial phase of the film was hilarious as Nathu Narayanan marries her after she is offered some money, in the end, their relationship grows stronger. His undying love for Bhole Omana and Nathu Narayanan left the audience in tears. KPAC's makeover for Lalita's character was also fascinating.

'Kanalkattu' was directed by Satyan Antikad, and is one of the few films where a mature actress romanced a younger actor on screen. The film demanded it and KPAC Lalita portrayed the character perfectly.
