Taco Bell Used the Super Bowl to Announce a Mysterious Surprise for Bell Lovers

The amount of immediate conversation prompted by Super Bowl commercials is typically limited to a chuckle or sad head for the rare tear-jerker. This year, though, there were more that wanted you to visit a site, scan a QR code, or do some kind of 360-degree work with a half-time show. Taco Bell stood out among that crowd this year.

Taco Bell made its Super Bowl ad debut during the fourth quarter of the game between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. In this, the taco shop promised to surprise whoever he wanted. However, you will have to wait a few months for this. Taco Bell tells Thrillist that the bounty is coming May 19, but you'll need to sign up for Taco Bell Rewards by February 13 at 11:59 p.m. PT to get the benefits.

The image provided to Thrillist is as vague as the rest of the hype seems. The image shows a hand holding a bag off the vine. No food is pictured. There are very few indications. However, it does say, "Something wrong is going to happen on 5/19." So, maybe it has something to do with the sauce? (Tap the head like it's a major revelation.)

May 19 is a long way off, especially in the fast food realm, which we tend to associate with being, well, fast. Menu items arrive at a moment's notice, disappear without a trace, and lunch pops out the window moments after you've ordered it from the driver's seat of your car. May 19th is a long time from now, but if you sign up for the rewards app now, you can forget about it. Then the real surprise will come once the surprise comes.
