Schools in Madison, Middleton-Cross Plains, Sun Prairie, Verona among many closed Tuesday due to weather

School districts announced closures on Tuesday as a powerful storm system brought snow and hail to southern Wisconsin Monday through Tuesday.

According to district announcements and websites, several school districts in Madison, Middleton-Cross Plains, Sun Prairie and Verona were involved in closing buildings and canceling extracurriculars for Tuesday.

The Madison School District said in an email that classes, all student programs at schools, and MSCR in-person programs, athletics and other evening activities were canceled for Tuesday.

In Middleton-Cross Plains, high school students will complete school assignments remotely, while elementary and middle school students will consider Tuesday a school day, the district said in a statement. The district's website said students at Sun Prairie will not have virtual instruction because the equipment is not taken home on a daily basis.

A quarter of an inch of snow is expected in southern Wisconsin until the storm leaves later on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
