Schwarzenegger and Hayek take on the roles of Zeus and Hera as they try to enjoy and adjust to retired life in Palm Springs.
Have you ever stopped to think about what would happen if Zeus retired from Mount Olympus?
With a little help from Arnold Schwarzenegger as Zeus and Salma Hayek as his wife Hera, BMW re-imagined the Greek god in a hilarious new Super Bowl 2022 ad for its all-electric vehicle, the BMW IX.
In the span of a full minute, Zeus is navigating life during his transition from Mount Olympus to Palm Springs. He tries to keep pace with retired life on Earth, a feat that involves using all of the electric-powered objects he now needs to use instead of relying on his own powers.
However, life on earth may not have been everything that Zeus had hoped for. In a jiffy, he struggles to use a microwave to manually push a button, and to start a bit of his golf cart or yard tools without the help of people in his pool or golf course. Uses a float in the round. Can't even enjoy it. by his magical touch.
"That's it! I'm done with this place!" He announces at one point in desperation, which Hera finds amusing. In the next scene, his anger is seen rising, as he accidentally loses electricity across the city as he tries to make the light switch work in his house.
Hera, seeing her growing frustration with life on Earth, decides to fix something with her husband in her street: an all-electric vehicle.
"I figured you could use a little pick-me-up," she tells him.
In the most appropriate fashion, the ad ends with both actors singing the 1982 hit "Electric Avenue" by Eddie Grant as they drive down a California street with all the green lights on. Well, Zeus might have something to do with that fate...
