Night curfew in Uttar Pradesh extended by two hours

LUCKNOW: With the active Covid-19 cases in the state crossing the 3,000-mark, the state government has closed all schools up to class 10 from January 6 to January 14. Any district where the number of active cases cross 1,000, an additional set of restrictions will also be imposed.

With the state witnessing a sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, reporting 992 cases on Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a review meeting with Team-9 and asked to extend the night curfew hours from January 6. The highly transmissible Omicron variant was confirmed in 23 persons in UP on Tuesday, taking the total number of such affected people in the state to 31. All those who came in contact with these patients are being traced and tested.

Currently, there is no district where the active cases are more than 1,000, but as soon as this happens, gyms, spas, cinema halls, banquet halls, restaurants and other public places can only operate at 50% capacity, A government spokesman said.

From January 6, no more than 100 people will be allowed in any event, including weddings, when in closed halls or rooms. No more than 50 per cent of the land's capacity will be allowed in open spaces.

COVID help desks are to be set up immediately in all government, semi-government and private institutions, trusts, companies, historical monuments, offices, religious places, hotels, restaurants and industrial units. Where necessary, day care centers should be set up and no one should be allowed in any premises without screening.

The state government will also activate all monitoring committees and Integrated Command and Control Centers (ICCC). The committees will work under village heads in rural areas and under municipal councilors in urban areas. They will have to go door-to-door identifying people who are to be vaccinated or who are to have a second shot. Where needed, they will also distribute medicine kits.

CM has said that at least 3 lakh tests should be done daily in the state. In the last few days, it has conducted an average of 1.6 lakh tests since the number of cases increased.

He has also said that the past records of private testing laboratories should be checked before they are authorized to conduct COVID-19 tests. Nodal officers are being appointed who will conduct the investigation.

“The CM has said that all ICCCs should be kept active 24x7 and their numbers should be widely publicised. These should be monitored regularly. A panel of experts should be available in all ICCCs. Anyone coming to the Magh Mela in Prayagraj later this month will require a 48-hour negative RT PCR test,” the official said.
