Neve Campbell Says She Was Attacked by a Bear on Set When She Was 17

Neve Campbell is famous for her roles in the Scream franchise, but she revealed that those movies aren't the only horror story she's been a part of.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote the latest Scream film, the actress revealed that she was once attacked by a bear on the set of an unnamed film in Canada (summarised, it seems that it could be Tales of the Wild). At the age of 17, she said, "I was playing this role where it's 'the one with the animals' and there was a scene where I had to be chased by a bear. They brought this bear to the set and they first Gave me this big bottle of Coke to feed. So now, it's a bear on the sugar rush. And then, he said—and I'm 17, so I'm really dumb—he said, 'Hand your honey. Dunk in and just run. And when you get there to the tree, turn around and put your hand out and feed the bear. And I, of course, wanted to please everyone, 'Okay!'"

However, despite following those instructions to a T, Campbell said things didn't go according to plan. "The bear isn't slowing down and it's not coming for my hand," he continued. "He grabs me by the foot and he pulls me out of the woods. My mother goes to the sets, so she is screaming. The whole team is frozen because no one can believe what is happening. I All I can think of to say is, 'He's biting me,' like it's not obvious."

Eventually, the Party of Five star is saved by the film's bear wrangler, who throws stones at the animal until it is charged, giving it time to escape and hide on top of a cliff. "It's silly," she said of the story, adding that she had not suffered any major injuries from the attack. "[Actors] are asked to do silly things." Even sillier, Campbell confessed that, to please people, she agreed to re-do the scene because the crew wasn't filming in the first place. Clarkson responded, "Actors are so different from musicians. I can't stress this enough... I'd be like, 'Goodbye!'" Campbell said, "So do I... now."
