Ralph Rangnick is expected to have Harry Maguire available for a visit to Aston Villa on Saturday, despite Manchester United captain struggling to recover from a stomach injury.
Maguire has missed United's last two matches but Rangnik said there is a chance he will be fit to play at Villa Park.
The Germans will be without suspended duo Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw while Paul Pogba will be sidelined.
Diogo Dalot needed stitches after sustaining an ankle injury during Monday night's FA Cup third-round 1-0 win over Aston Villa, but sources told ESPN that full-back Steven would face the is expected to be available for Gerard's side for the second time in six days over the weekend.
Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo were also missing from the squad against Villa due to muscle injuries. Dean Henderson was absent due to a minor illness but is now back in training.
"We had two centre-backs available [against Villa], all others injured," Rangnik said.
"Hopefully we will have some other players available for Saturday's game at Villa, including Harry as centre-back, which will give us more options. Phil Jones is back for the game on Saturday." Hope to be fit."
Meanwhile, Rangnik has backed Marcus Rashford to do his best after a disappointing night against Villa in the England international.
The 24-year-old has not scored since a 3-0 win over Tottenham in October and the United interim boss said he could do so with a goal to boost his confidence.
"He's working hard," Rangnik said. "He's in training, he's been doing really well the last few days, so he was pretty much right [against Villa] in the starting XI.
“I think we found him quite a few times in the first half, we even tried to get him into the box, not that often in the second half and so at the end of the game I decided to make two changes. Anthony Elanga and Jesse Lingard .
"It is important for strikers to score goals and goals, that there are moments of success, of course it will be good for Marcus if he can score a goal but as long as he is trying, as long as he is well I don't see much problem."
