Joe Ingles enters NBA's COVID-19 protocols, becoming first Utah Jazz player added to list this season

SALT LAKE CITY — Joe Ingalls entered the NBA's health and safety protocol Tuesday, the first Utah Jazz player to join that list this season.

The Jazz was the only NBA team to have players in protocol this season. One player in all 29 other teams was sidelined by COVID-19 in the past three weeks during this outbreak, many of them having more than 10 players on that list.

Ingalls will not play Wednesday when Utah tours Denver, the Jazz said. No timetable is known for his return.

The number of players in the protocol has dropped significantly in recent days, reaching around 125 last week and falling to 75 - based on data released by the teams - as of Tuesday evening. The numbers change frequently and some players who are still listed in the protocol are closer to a comeback than others.
